Malaysian Trumpet Snail (Melanoides tuberculata) Homebred

$0.99

These prolific Malaysian Trumpet Snails (Melanoides tuberculata) are excellent for eating algae, scavenging, and sifting substrate! They help aerate and prevent gas bubbles in sand or any substrate.

The Malaysian Trumpet Snail is a hardy, livebearing species native to Southeast Asia. This snail is an exceptional scavenger and substrate sifter that also consumes algae without harming ornamental plants. It spends most of its time climbing aquarium terrain and burrowing in the substrate, where it will reproduce.

Feeding and care are very easy for this snail. It requires the same maintenance and conditions as most tropical aquarium snails and should never be exposed to copper.

Please Note: This species is livebearing and extraordinarily prolific. With proper care, its population can be managed, making it an extremely useful scavenger. However, it can become a nuisance if left unmanaged, especially in aquariums with regular overfeeding.

RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS:

  • Temperature: 72° - 86° F (22° - 30° C)

  • pH: 6.5 - 7.5

  • KH: 2 - 12 dKH

  • Minimum tank size: 1 - 5 gallons

CARE GUIDELINES:

  • Diet: Scavenger that feeds continually. Requires very little feeding in a well-established aquarium containing algae, biofilm, or decaying plant matter. In less mature aquariums, high-quality dry foods with high plant content can be sparingly fed daily.

  • Social behavior: Peaceful

  • Origin: Southeast Asia

  • Average adult size: 1 - 1.5 inches (2.5 - 3.8 cm)

  • Average purchase size: 0.5 - 1 inch (1.3 - 2.5 cm)
