Red Moss (Caloglossa cf. beccarii) Aquatic Plant

$19.99
sold out

Overview:Caloglossa cf. beccarii, commonly known as Red Moss, is a rare and visually stunning addition to any aquarium. Though often treated as a moss, this species is technically an algae, known for its variable and vibrant colors. Depending on the environment, Red Moss can shift between shades of grey, brown, maroon, and red, making it a unique focal point in any aquascape. Its striking coloration adds a beautiful contrast when placed among green plants, and it is particularly effective when tied to rocks, where it will gradually form a dense, bushy mass.

This species is currently rare, making it a sought-after choice for hobbyists looking to add something different to their tank.

Portion Size:

  • You will receive a 5cm x 5cm (2" x 2") portion

  • This stuff grew slow for me so I don't have many of them left to sell

What We Like About Red Moss:

  • Beautiful coloration that ranges from grey to deep red

  • Adds a unique visual contrast in planted aquariums

  • Grows into a bushy, eye-catching mass when attached to rock

  • Extremely Rare and highly prolific

Recommended Tank Parameters:

  • Temperature: 20 – 28°C (68 – 82°F)

  • pH: 6.0 – 7.5

  • Lighting: Moderate to high lighting to maintain its vibrant coloration

  • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (4 – 12 dGH)

  • Minimum Tank Size: Suitable for all tank sizes when properly maintained

Care Information:

  • Growth Rate: Moderate; best results are achieved when tied to rocks or driftwood

  • Maintenance: Red Moss is relatively easy to care for but thrives under good water quality and stable conditions. Regular trimming may be needed to keep its shape.

  • Origin: Native to Asia but rare in Australian aquariums

  • Appearance: Coloration can vary depending on tank conditions, from grey and brown to deep maroon and red

Recommended Tank Mates: Suitable for peaceful aquariums with small fish, shrimp, and snails. It will not harm other plants or tank inhabitants

Note: I do have duckweed in my tank but I will remove as much as I can off of this plant before giving it to you. As you can see in the photo there are some pieces floating around but it won't be too difficult to get rid of.
